Jem Poster (born 1949) is a noted contemporary British poet and novelist. Poster has worked variously as an archaeologist for English Heritage, an administrator for Cambridge University's Institute of Continuing Education, and as Lecturer in English Literature with Oxford University Department for Continuing Education. He is a former fellow of Kellogg College, Oxford. Poster's poetry and prose have attracted widespread critical acclaim and he has won both the Cardiff Academi International Poetry Competition and the Peterloo Open Poetry Competition. Poster's poems and novels are informed by environmental and archaeological concerns and are characterised by a careful attention to natural detail and to the complexities of human passion. Poster is the former Professor and Chair of Creative Writing at Aberystwyth University and has now opted to taken an early retirement to concentrate on his writing.
